Generic Drug: Barium Sulfate
It was expected that the Albany Medical College's South Clinical Campus would have high volumes of barium liquid waste in their Diagnostic Radiology department. However, wastage was less than anticipated due to this department's use of unit dosing. Proprietary Drug(s): E-Z-Paque, E-Z Cat, E-Z-HD, Polibar, Tonopaque, Entrobar For more information: Mankes, Russell. Albany Medical Center. Practice Greenhealth, 29 Oct. 2009. Web. 10 June 2013. Generic Drug: Metoprolol Tartrate
A hospital found that although only 50 mg of Lopressor were regularly administered, the 100 mg tablet size was being purchased and split, resulting in a 50 mg waste. Lopressor and its generic, metoprolol are both available in smaller sizes. See page 53 of the 10 Step Blueprint, below. Proprietary Drug(s): Lopressor, Metoprolol Tartrate For more information: Healthcare Environmental Resource Center |
