Generators

Stationary reciprocating internal combustion engines (RICE) used for power generation, including emergency generators are regulated under Federal air pollution regulations, including:

  • Standards of Performance for Stationary Spark Ignition Internal Combustion Engines (40 CFR 60 Subpart JJJJ)
  • Standards of Performance for Stationary Compression Ignition Internal Combustion Engines (40 CFR 60 Subpart IIII)
  • National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (40 CFR 63 Subpart ZZZZ)

Your generator may also be covered by state and local regulations that may involve additional requirements or more stringent standards than the federal regulations.

For detailed information, see the Combustion Portal RICE section.
